The D Rat is a purpose-built floating surface lure designed to trigger violent topwater strikes from freshwater predators. Crafted from buoyant balsa wood, this lure is made to ride high in the water and imitate a drifting rodent, an irresistible, high-calorie target for fish that hunt the shallows.
Its compact, lightweight balsa body allows for accurate casts and controlled presentations. On a slow retrieve, the D Rat produces a subtle surface wake while the soft tail delivers natural movement. When retrieved faster, the lure can be worked just below the surface, creating added vibration and flash that provokes aggressive reaction strikes.
This dual-action design makes the D Rat effective in a wide range of conditions. Whether waked across the surface, burned just under the water, or paused to let it float naturally, the lure stays in the strike zone longer, right where ambush predators wait along shorelines, weed edges, timber, and backwater cover.
